Rather unexpectedly, as it appears more of the official Star Wars content will be unveiled during Saturday’s sessions, on Friday we’ve gotten quite a lot of information, including new audio and video clips from The Rise of Skywalker, as well as a trailer, casting and release date news regarding the upcoming The Mandalorian. (Ming Na woo! -conn8d) Also, Ewan McGregor officially returns as Obi-Wan!

The Star Wars panel Saturday morning was top secret, but some press could tweet out about their experiences, and oh my! A new poster was revealed and the cast seems really excited. There was a double bladed surprise in the reel shown today, but we can’t inspect the footage ourselves until Monday.

Daisy: “I got some emotional scenes to do with [Leia]. It’s just weird, it’s weird that the stuff we did four years ago is so pertinent to the story now.”
Naomi: “[Jannah] is this fierce, strong, powerful woman, she is skillful… [Variety: with a lightsaber maybe?] with a bow and arrow! A space one! It’s quite special; it’s a space bow and arrow people. She can ride this creature called an Orback, and she spent years pulling that together to potentially fight for what is right…. Maybe… who knows.”
John: [Variety: we want to know more about Finn, the backstory, are we going to get the payoff?] “We’re going to get bits and bits, we’re going to get like sprinkles, like chocolate chips. But what we have to deal with right now is this new enemy, and why is Rey dressed like that? Who decided her wardrobe? Loads of questions, loads of questions, and Finn is fully involved in that.”
KMT: [Variety: on the kiss] Listen. I think there are a lot of cool things that happen in this movie. As to what they are, I cannot say. But I’m excited for people to kind of further explore these relationships between all these incredible characters.
Keri: [Variety: on Zorii] Well I think we can elaborate is just that she has a little bit of a checkered past and maybe some questionable morals, but really she’s an old friend of Poe’s. I think the entrance of Zorii is there to sort of describe more of who he was. And you know in a very intimate way, and familiar way, and the friends are sort of like, ‘what do you mean you know [Poe]?!’ [Variety: like friends?!] Oscar: Yeah… ehhhhhh it’s complicated, you know, it’s complicated [laughing].
Daisy: “I felt like at the end, I was like, ‘ah this is strange’ because it sort of feels like a finish, but then we have another film to do, and then JJ figured out a way to take the story in such a different direction. Somebody said to me that they saw the film, and they said, ‘[Rey] was like the teenager in episode 7, and in The Rise of Skywalker, it’s like Daisy is 2.0 or something’ and I was like, ‘that’s nice!’ to just feel that I’ve progressed.”
John: “Like really getting into Finn, and getting into his story, 8 was definitely a challenge for me. We had several different conversations and discussions about Finn and where he would go, and I couldn’t figure out whether that was going in the trajectory that I had kind of thought, and it was also great for that to happen at the same time, because it then provides a real obstacle for your character because our lives don’t pan out that we get to decide whether great stuff gets to happen to us sometimes it just takes us on a wild turn, and Finn needs that turn. And to confirm on this film and what JJ’s done – I’m glad for all of it.
Naomi: “I like best about [Jannah] she is fearless, and she’s fierce, and she is ready for a fight. But that doesn’t mean that she’s like hardened or anything like that, but she knows what’s right and wrong. And she’s willing to support that. So I like that about her. And she’s cool! Like just like just on a basic level, she’s just really cool, so.”
KMT: “I think I was really excited where it ended last time, and I’m really excited about where we pick up. It’s such an incredible thing to just be a part of this universe. And I think that there’s so many storylines that meld together in this one it’s going to be really really exciting.”
JJ: “We got to have these chara be a unified group, sometimes fractured within the adventure, but unified, but going through this crazy adventure together, and to get to have that sort of core group doing that was no small thing.”
Anthony: ”When you see [The Rise of Skywalker], you’ll see that somebody did a magic trick. You almost won’t be aware of some of the things that happened before.”
