Space!!! The final frontier!! Wait, wrong franchise. While you may like Star Trek more, there’s something Star Trek doesn’t have, and that’s shirtless Adam Driver. Who in my opinion is a goddamn babe.
Compassion vs. Selfishness
In a speech given by George Lucas, Lucas details how he views the dark side of the Force versus the light side of the Force. In his view, compassionate people live on the light side, while selfish people live on the dark side. There are a few things to keep in mind when thinking about Lucas’s words in this video.
On behalf of the Shadow Council, I’m pleased to introduce a new member of the blogging team who’s making her debut post today: needsmoresprinkles! (She also goes by needs_more_sprinkles or sprinkles.)
Sprinkles is a freelance theater artist and graphic designer from Seattle, Washington. She became a Star Wars fan in her teenage years, after getting so grossed out by the tauntaun guts scene in The Empire Strikes Back when she was eight that she refused to watch the series for almost a decade. She is most interested in the myth and folklore roots of the series, particularly how it relates to the work of Joseph Campbell. She chose her username because she was making rainbow sprinkle Chex Mix the same day she started her reddit account, and the rest is history.
Let’s give her a warm welcome!
The new issue of Insider, #177, has some TLJ info I haven’t heard before, or haven’t heard confirmed before.
- Poe definitely gets demoted from Flight Commander to Captain.
- Maz connects the heroes to a mysterious new ally (almost certainly DJ, as speculated).
- New BB units include 2BB-2 and BB-4.
- The FO also uses All Terrain Heavy Haulers (AT-HH) in addition to the AT-M6s.
- The Crait speeders are called Roche Machines V-4X-D Ski-Speeders, and they date back to the Rebel Alliance.
I usually only do these for books, but BFII was so packed with continuity that I decided I needed to do one for it as well. I’ve also added a new section for nitpicks and errors.
The Star Wars Shadow Council is pleased to announce it now has a public discord! Come chat with us and other fans!
In part 1 of my Sequel Trilogy Theory of Everything, I discussed my thoughts on the events that led up to the state of affairs that we find the major character’s in at the beginning of the Force Awakens.
The post can be found here:
The TLDR version is that I believe:
Snoke is a villain more akin to Voldemort or Suaron than to Palpatine in that I believe he is seeking to regain lost power and that he sees the members of the Skywalker family as a means to that end.
Rey is Luke’s daughter and was separated from her family when the Falcon was stolen from Han Solo during an attack on the Skywalker/Solo family orchestrated by Snoke. Luke, Han, Leia, and Ben were led to believe that Rey had been killed. The loss of Rey was the catalyst for a chain of events that culminated with Ben Solo’s fall to the Dark Side.
Luke is aware of the Chosen One prophecy and believes that his family are the ones that need to maintain the balance of the Force. He originally thought that Rey would be the one to carry on that legacy, but after her “death” he put all of his hopes on Ben. After Ben fell Luke went looking for answers at the First Temple to try to figure out both how he went so wrong and how to make things right again.
The Force Awakens drops hints to the back story and also poses a few other minor mysteries that I would like to address here.
